My only real issue with auto crafters is that they're expensive to make at the stage you unlock them, by the time you can really afford to spam them everywhere, you're probably close to finished anyway. And you really need drones, and ideally T3 miners as well, to automate a lot of stuff.

You can place your habitats first, then add the foundations, but the foundations are slightly smaller so the foundations would have spaces if you wanted them centered on the habitats (and thats with the 1x1 cubes.) #1.
