We are seeing some pretty respectable results with the Norma and the Lapua is no slouch, so its hard to ignore the downrange stuff, I am definitely gonna move to a Norma barrel, and already had a 300NM built for the same reasons.The .338-.378 Weatherby makes about 100-150fps more velocity than the Lapua, but with 10-15% more powder. The .340 Weatherby Magnum makes about 100fps less velocity than the Lapua, but with 15-20% less powder. .338 Weatherby fires a 160gn at 3600fps, the Lapua at 3500fps. They push 300gn bullets at 2800fps and 2650fps.The AR-30A1 is also available in .300 Winchester Magnum. In this caliber, the barrel is 24 inches long as opposed to 26 inches, but its unloaded weight is 14.5 pounds. That seems too heavy to gain the 200 to 300 extra yards over a 7.62mm NATO rifle.
