You need the owner of the team in the 3 to play unfortunately. Most likely that is your issue. Yep, it's a broken system that carried over from 2k20. Only the team owner can switch it to 3v3. So you constantly are starting new teams if you have more than 3 friends who play. We have a team of three but it only says 5v5 and it won't let us start.
