IMO, adjusting hydraulic lifers with the engine running is unnecessary and can make a huge mess. Use the IO/EC method. Start with Cyl #1, turn the crank until the intake valve starts to open, then adjust the exhaust to zero lash + 1/2 a turn (or how ever much the lifter manufacturer recommends).
